Our central concern is the treatment of chronically and acutely seriously ill children and adolescents according to the principle of “evidence based medicine”. Due to the increasing specialization in pediatric and adolescent medicine, multidisciplinary teams of experts are required. We offer outpatient and inpatient care for all age groups, from the smallest premature babies to young adults, take the involvement of relatives into account and put the “child” at the center of our actions.
In keeping with the motto “specialists for children”, we see the development of the “Pediatric Center” as an essential step towards optimal care through cooperation between the different specialist disciplines.
The Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine consists of:
- five clinical departments,
- the Core Unit Teaching,
- the fields of research,
- and the general fields.
As the largest pediatric facility in Austria, we are positioned at the top of Europe not only in patient care, but also in research. Our research focuses include neuroscience, rare diseases, infectiology/immunology/allergology, organ-specific diseases, coagulation disorders as well as autoimmunological and endocrine diseases. Our research achievements are in the top ranks of clinics at MedUni Vienna. In 2021, a total of 2,169 or 926 LOM relevant impact points were achieved.
Practically all scientific staff are actively involved in student teaching and basic and specialist pediatric knowledge is imparted in numerous courses and KPJ students (KPJ = clinical practical year), diploma and doctoral candidates are supervised.
