We conduct collaborative research in the area of patient safety to define practice-relevant problems in the care of children and adolescents with chronic and complex illnesses and to find patient- and family-centered solutions.
The POeT Pediatric Living Lab offers a protected innovation environment embedded in the IMC ward E07 and the specialized outpatient clinics within the department (nephrology, gastroenterology, rheumatology). This creates an open and creative, cross-border space within close proximity to real-world clinical practice. The currently untapped potential of healthcare professionals, patients, and their families will be harnessed to enable scientifically based solutions to improve patient safety with the help of modern technological integrations (e.g., artificial intelligence and machine learning). These solutions will ideally be evaluated as prototypes in the clinical setting and tested for feasibility of implementation. The research is based on previously published work focusing on medication safety, communication and digitalization (see list of publications).
