Pediatric Neuro-Oncology

The Vienna Brain Tumor Center for Children and Adolescents

Univ.-Prof. DDr. Johannes Gojo, BSc

Welcome to the homepage of our Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Department!

A diagnosis of a brain tumor or other neurological cancer in a child is a profound challenge for the entire family. Our specialized department is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and treatment for children and adolescents with these complex conditions.

The Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Department at the Medical University of Vienna is one of the largest centers for the treatment of pediatric brain tumors in the German-speaking world. At our center, we care for children and adolescents with primary brain tumors, spinal cord tumors, and tumors associated with neurofibromatosis. Approximately 60 patients with newly diagnosed tumors of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) are treated at our center each year.

The Vienna Brain Tumor Center for Children and Adolescents and the NF Children’s Center of Expertise are part of the European Reference Network (ERN). The ERN Paedcan center (rare pediatric tumors), led by Prof. Johannes Gojo, and the ERN GENTURIS (tumor predisposition syndromes), led by Prof. Amedeo Azizi, have been designated as “Type B Centers of Expertise for Rare Diseases” and are thus part of the National Action Plan for Rare Diseases (NAP.se) of the Federal Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Care, and Consumer Protection.
