Caring for and supporting a sick child during treatment is a challenging situation for the entire family. That is why we would like to inform you about additional services and support options available at home:
Mobile Psychological Service
The “Mobile Psychological Service” project, funded by Kinder-Krebshilfe Wien/NÖ/BGLD, provides psychological care even outside the hospital. This service is designed to offer targeted support to your child, you as parents, and your child’s siblings in the familiar home environment and to help you cope with this challenging life situation. The goal is to help your family process what you’ve been through and to identify and make use of available resources. In addition, the program is designed to facilitate open communication about the illness within the family.
Mag. Stephanie-Dominique Karigl is available to assist you as a mobile psychologist on our team.

External oncology nursing service
The services provided by the external oncology nursing service are designed to support and relieve the burden on families receiving care in the neuro-oncology department.
Various nursing interventions can be provided at home, in the patient’s familiar surroundings. This requires the caregiver to have many years of experience. As a result, professional care, monitoring, counseling, and training can take place in the home environment. The EOP collaborates with the hospital’s multidisciplinary team, various parent advocacy groups, associations, and other community-based organizations.
This service also supports patients receiving palliative care and their families, enabling them to spend as much time as possible at home.
The EOP is a mobile care service for children with cancer from St. Anna Children’s Hospital and the University Clinic AKH in the Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland regions, supported by the Kinderkrebshilfe Wien-NÖ-Bgld.
Its service area covers Vienna and the surrounding region (up to approximately 1 hour’s drive from Vienna). Appointments are scheduled in consultation with the hospital ward or day clinic.
Additional Mobile Nursing, Medical, and Psychosocial Care at Home
All federal states offer mobile care through mobile pediatric nursing services. This allows children and adolescents with significant nursing care needs to be cared for at home, while also relieving the burden on parents in providing care and support. In the information box, you will find contact information for the relevant agencies, depending on the federal state.
If, in addition to nursing support, medical or psychosocial support at home would be helpful for seriously ill children and adolescents, interdisciplinary mobile palliative care teams are available in Vienna, Lower Austria, and the other federal states. These teams can provide comprehensive and holistic support to your ill child and your entire family in your home environment during intensive treatment. Through close consultation and collaboration with the pediatric hospital team and the mobile palliative care teams, the best possible care and support can thus be provided at home as well.
