Because psychosocial care is important!
A cancer diagnosis brings with it numerous challenges: coping with the diagnosis, dealing with medical and psychosocial evaluations and treatments, organizing treatment plans, managing the impact on daily life, and understanding the implications for family life and school life. In other words, “How COPE” – “How do we cope?” As the COPE Group, we focus on:
- CHILDHOOD. Our focus is on children, adolescents, young adults, and their families.
- ONCOLOGY. Our specialty is neuro-oncology.
- PSYCHOSOCIAL CARE AND RESEARCH. Care, research, and teaching are closely intertwined in our work. As part of the so-called “integrated care model,” we support patients and their families from the fields of clinical psychology and health psychology, clinical neuropsychology, clinical social work, and education as an integral part of the treatment team. Our daily work is based on international guidelines. Please find the here: www.awmf.org/leitlinien/detail/ll/025-002.html The further development of psychosocial care models is a key aspect of this effort and is reflected in our ongoing projects and research priorities.
- Bridging the Gap
- EMPOWERMENT. Using age-appropriate and evidence-based methods, we aim to help people living with cancer develop resilience, coping skills, and health literacy.

Where to find us
In addition to medical and nursing care, psychosocial care is also an integral part of the treatment provided by our team. An illness during childhood or adolescence always poses a challenge for the entire family system and raises many questions. That is why, right at the start of your hospital stay (on the ward, in the day clinic, or at the outpatient clinic), you will meet a member of our psychosocial team (psychology, social work, education) who can discuss with you which psychosocial support services may be appropriate for you.
However, please also feel free to contact our psychosocial team directly with any psychosocial concerns that arise during the course of your treatment, or ask the medical and nursing team to contact us on your behalf.

As part of the neuro-oncology follow-up clinic, our multidisciplinary team (medical, nursing, and psychosocial staff) is here to support you with any questions that may arise during your follow-up care.
In addition to continuously monitoring the success of your treatment and the early detection of treatment-related long-term effects, it is important to us that you, as a family, are able to return smoothly to your daily lives after what is often an intensive period of treatment.
Therefore, please contact our psychosocial team directly with any psychosocial concerns, or ask the medical and nursing team to contact us on your behalf.
